On the first image from the CDC, it is clearly states that the TB Test “is not contraindicated for any other persons, including pregnant women”.
On the actual TB insert as you can see it is clearly listed as a pregnancy Category C. It states “it is not known if Tubersol can cause fetal harm.” Catagory C drugs per the CDC: “Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well controlled studies in humans.”
TUBERSOL contains:
Purified protein derivative of M. tuberculosis | 5 TU per 0.1 mL |
Polysorbate 80 | 0.0006% |
Phenol | 0.22% to 0.35% w/v |
Drugs Rx lists side effects here, including anaphylactic shock… no one mentioned that when I got my TB test at work… or when they recommended it to me when I was pregnant. Even my doctor said it was “safe,” but still wrote me a note to get out of the test while pregnant.
Why as patients (and employees!) are we not fully informed? That is our right. Omission of the truth is the equivalent of a lie.
